Let it snow, let it snow!
Well, the sad day has come. I’ve reached my photo upload limit here at Wandering Musings, hence the silent treatment this past month. But I figure I need at least ONE post before November slips away, so… here I am. No worries, I’m redoing the way I do things, and I think it’ll be an overall improvement (though it will mean an extra click for you to connect to an external photo album; sorry, it can’t be helped). Look for some new photos very soon.
In other news, as I’m sure you guessed from the title – IT’S SNOWING! Akita’s first snow of the season hit today. Granted, it’s wet and isn’t sticking, but still, it makes me happy. So happy, in fact, that as I type this, a sort of rigor mortise is setting in, freezing my fingers in their poised ‘keyboard’ position. Why are my fingers frozen? Because my apartment is literally the same temperature inside as it is outside. Why? …Because my window is wide open and the sub-zero (Celsius) breeze is washing over me. WHY? Well. Here’s the story:
Last night I was cooking ‘hashed potatoes’ in my microwave, which has a built in oven feature. Normally, twenty minutes and they’re done. This time, however, I unknowingly pushed the wrong button (they’re all kanji) and went off to watch Firefly. Ten minutes passed. Ten minutes of my hashed potatoes smouldering to a grisly black. Granted, my laptop is only a few feet from my microwave, but by the time I smelled the smoke, it was too late. The smoke was POURING out the microwave. What can I say? I was too enthralled by Firefly to notice. My eyes burned as I quickly opened the window and my balcony door. I wasn’t sure which to fan – the ominous sprinkler that looms over all my belongings, or the odd device I think might be the smoke detector. I chose the sprinkler. It didn’t go off, luckily, but now it seems everything in my apartment is saturated with a smoky smell, and anything that comes out of my microwave tastes like ash. Fantastic. Tonight I’m continuing the airing-out process.
So, that’s the story. I’m going to go curl up under my kotatsu now. Good night!
